I work at CT as an installer so I get paid by the hour no matter how much or how little work I do. But the Mechanics are on flat rate so they get paid by the job. It all depends on the people , sometimes I would see guys call unnessary work on vehicles and then the tell the service advisor what needs to be done and when the service advisor disagrees the mechanics would convince them into selling the job to the customer. The problem with CT is that its' such a big place that each time you bring in your vehicle , chances are not the same person will be working on it and they won't let you stand in the shop to watch for insurance and liability purposes.

i use cobourg automotive....sure it takes me an hour to drive each way...but i know they are honest, i did a co-op placement there in highschool so i got to see "behind the scenes". now if i can't do it myself, it goes to them for all work. an honest shop is very hard to come by...as you see in the APA reports

What if you gotta leave it there?

hehe, my buddy lives there so if i do have to leave it for like a day, i stay there and we enjoy some Jack Daneils. if it has to go for something big...i have CAA so i'd get it towed there. like i said, its hard to find a shop you fully trust. not only would they never rip me off, they hook me up sometimes with free labour here and there, which with timing belt and other maintenace, saved me $400 over competitive quotes here

Man that is absolutely scary... and these are big named shops as well! I can only imagine that smaller shops are worse. In any case this has not deterred me from taking my car to a shop. If you go to a shop you should always have them call you or tell you an estimate before you let them do anything! This investigation was a bit ludicris in the sense that they told the mechanic basically that they should do anything to get the problem fixed and that's that. Your asking for trouble right there, even though it doesn't give them the right.
