don't want to get people upset but there are many other great o/s other than windows. Imo best o/s is linux. Distro like blackbox or phrost are best ones out. No fancy screens or toolbars. If you know what you are doing you can still run windows .exe files and the chance of linux crashing is close to 0. I've tought my parents how to use ubuntu and they can't be happier. I hate anything by windows and Mac since its over used and very unstable. But then again that is just my opinion.

On the right setup it can be stable....

I was running PCLinuxOS on some newer hardware and the drivers didn't seem to work right and I had firefox crashes allot, as well as random lockups with the video drivers.

I don't know why people blame the stability of their computer on Microsoft.

My computers only go offline when I install software/hardware. My work or home PCs never crash.

You have to get proper hardware, and not click and install stupid 'free' applications to enable smilies in msn.

Linux seems more stable and clean because morons are scared of using it because it is not mainstream.

Every idiot and their mother uses windows, because it is the best, and thus you have a lot more problems with it.

it's a different level of user.

Windows is the best for everything. This is why it absolutely dominates the market.

Mac has found a niche market. It is preferred by computer illiterate people who make websites dedicated to their cats.

I love windows XP and think it is the best O/S I've ever used.

Windows 7 is basically a correction of Windows Vista. It will have all the features they had promised with vista, without being such a resource hog. There should also be more compatibilities.

One of the issues with Linux vs Windows used to be the ability to run commands on the server with unix/linux, and being forced to act like a mac user for windows server. that's been fixed and windows admin have windows powershell.

i don't see any advantage to running Linux unless you have a pentium 3 and want more speed to check your email.

well thats the general perception, windows is great on its own places and linux on its own.

I have all my windows boxes running 24/7 for 2-3 years now, only time they get rebooted is when i do updates etc.

having said that, I also have ubuntu and backtrack3 dual boot laptop that i use 90% of the time at home for various purposes.
