wireless router question

-- What make is it? Linksys/DLink/Netgear/SMC ?
-- Play around w/ the port settings, there could be a conflict in the ports that MSN/ICQ is trying to access and since the router won't let it access those, it then thinks its offline. I also recommend you get the latest versions of MSN (6.0) and ICQ. Both have improved on router/firewall compatibility.
-- If you have a Linksys router, go into your settings and then go to "Advance" tab. In that then go to the "Forwarding" tab, and there should be a button that says UPnP Forwarding, click on that and that should open up some ports that make online messeging easier. (
This maybe the same for some other router companies, but I am not sure) Also, get the latest firmware for your router if it old, check the manufacturer's website.

wait, so the original cable that came in the box works but the one u bought or whatever doesnt? and the wireless part is okay?
I think its the cable...where did you get it? Maybe you live near radios or your cordless fone is near the router or whatever, and if it rings or the radio is on it will interfare with the network and cause you to lose connection, but i dont think that is it because u said ur sister comp is okay,
its probably the cable is try switching it a different port on the router.
or maybe your ports are open and someone is trying to hack you.....
