Yo Geeks - got more RAM Q's...

How can I tell what pin connection I have.

Anyone willing to wager a guess knowing that my computer was bought in 96/97 and is AMDK6-2-300mhz

72 pin dimms i'm guessing..
though might be 168/66mhz or /100 simms..
simms are 5 1/4" long..dimms are shorter..
know what yer multiplier is running at off hand??

count yer pins pal..
one side and double it..

Woah woah woah - slow down on the nerd-speak.

I think the only thing I got out of that is "take it out and look at it"

or if you can measure it..it'll be easier..
if they're longer than 5" you're running simms..from there we just have to find out what speed they run at..

to find out your multiplier you'll have to check against the mother board manual..

So not even looking inside hte casing yet...what are the odds I have two slots for RAM. I'd like to just get 128mbs and add it to my 64...

Is it normal for a board to have more than one RAM slot??

**** - I know nothing about hardware...lol

it would, but i'd personally recommend doing 256@133 if it was me..
that way should you upgrade down the road, you can take the ram with you in yer next puter..
just pull the 100 for now and save it for when you sell off yer AMD..

unless yer next upgrade will be a BIG step and you're gonna go DDR or something...

a lot of things to factor in i know..
but if yer looking for a "quick improvement" then ya, it'll work..

damn, i use to have some of that stuff kicking around too...gave it away i think....
