sometimes what you can and cannot call can be location specific.
Micheal, Look up your Translations Team at Telus (they will be a sub department of your Operations team) and ask them. you will get an answer.
now is it Star or pound 7777?
Also when you call the number and get through to the police I'd bet 100% of the time that the person that answers the phone knows nothing of the routing of the call.
prepaid and monthly plans route differently on the Bell Network .. so for one it might work and the other it might not.
(I have to check at work again but I have the feeling it doesn't work for bell)

If they really were tapping your phones, the whole point of it is for you not to know, or be able to find out about it. I really doubt that they'd leave a backdoor open for people to figure out if their phones were tapped or not.

im sure that this 7777 thing is to contact local peel police .. probably would only work location depending .. meaning you can only contact peel police using that method if your in the peel reigion at the time .. if your in peel and it doesnt work .. power cycle your phone (re-registering your location) and try again .. it should work ..

For those of you wondering about the legalities behind wire tapping in Canada, Canadian law states that one party must consent for telephone call recording.
However, that does not make wiretapping illegal if there is no consent. canadian courts consider each case individually. if your rights and freedoms are violated, the taps may be thrown out. but if the taps record a crime/info about a crime, they can be used against you. thats my understanding of the issue
