Exclamation 01 Civic Halo Projector Light Install Help

Hey all

So I picked up a set of halo projectors and I'm ready to drop them in, the headlight unit is pretty straight forward to swap in, its direct plug and play, my only concern is the 2 wires (Red and Black) that are required for the halo.

I know the Red one is for power, and the Black is the ground and that many suggest hooking them directly to the parking lights. Im not sure if i should splice the wires on the harness to hook the red wire up from the halos or is there a simpler way?

Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, im hoping to get these in tomorrow or at least this weekend.

Thanks

Wiring them to the parking lights would be the easiest way ... you could wire up a switch to them so that you can turn them on/off when you want but that would be more difficult as you would need to run wires inside the car and such ...

Any idea on how to figure out which wire runs to the parking lights? Or can I just splice it off the DRL wires?

Splicing into the DRL's or parking lights is not a good option because the DRL's turn OFF when you turn your main headlights/projectors ON. Also, the parking lights are often also your turn indicators, so you have the potential of splicing into the wrong circuit and ending up with 'turn indicating halos'.

Generally speaking, the halos are only 'useful' in the evening or at night, as they get washed out during the day.

Therefore, what I would do, is splice the halos into your projector headlights, or fog lights if you have them. This is the 'safest' since you will not be tapping into either your parking lights/turn indicators (which could cause issues of intermittent operation) or your DRL's which turn off when your headlights turn on. You also avoid potentially tapping into the 'high-beam' circuit on your DRL's.

This would also be the easiest since the halos would turn on with your projectors, and would also save you the hassle of wiring up a separate switch that only controls the halos.

As for figuring out which wire is which, it is pretty standard that red is positive and black is negative or ground. If you have separate headlight and high-beams, then figuring out which is positive to splice into for the halos should be straight-forward. I recommend picking up a multimeter from Canadian Tire or Parts Source. I saw one at CT on sale for $8 the other day. That way you can tell which wire is carrying current immediately and which is not.
