Best place to get HID projectors ?

Hi,

I've been looking around for Projectors for an 2004 Civic SI...

So far I have only found some on Ebay, but it is not clear if they will be compatible with HID lights..

Anyone have any other info on this?

Thanks!

Contact John Lo at OptionJDM. They sell proluminen HID kits at very good prices.

Hi Jeff,

Yeah I have been in contact with him, and I think I have sorted out which HID kit I need.

I guess my real queststion is should I be looking into getting projector headlights as well. Or should I just install the HID and see how they look, and get projectors later if required.

I'm not too familiar with what projectors do, but from what i've read they reduce glare and are less blinding for oncoming drivers.

I would just put them in the stock lights. Alot of people in the club have put them in their stock lights, they look great and not blinding. If later you want to change to projectors fine, but I would go with stock.

Prolumen $360-$430
4500K and 6000K with 4500K being brighter of the two

retro-fit: $700-$1000 - single xenon, $900-$1400 bi-zenon
$700 being german projectors/ballast/bulbs - installed
$1000 being S2K projectors/ballast/bulbs - installed

so i'd try the prolumen first and if you don't like them, sell them and go retro-fit...its a hell of alot cheap to go hid kit over hid retro-fit, but the retro-fit will give better results, meaning no glare, focused light beam pattern and wide beam.

retro-fit means retro-fitting OEM HID projectors into your headlight housing. You cut your housing, to accomodate the projectors, then ballasts.

retro-fit describes the work done, the HID projectors come from OEM cars, Acura TL, Acura TSX, Honda S2000, Audi A4, Audi A6, BMW 3 series.

retro-fit involves alot of work, but some people will do it for you for $250-$300 ontop of the costs $600-$900 for the HID projectors, ballasts and bulbs. OEM is 4100 or 4300K so pure white. go to HIDplanet.com and read the **** loads of pages they have there.

the other option is hid kit, which is ballasts/bulbs you use with your stock headlights, optionjdm has em. look in the group buy section or optionjdm.com

For the price and effectiveness, Prolumen is the way to go. I have driven next to vehicles with HID's equipped from the factory and they are just as bright. Take a look in my sig, there's pictures of the HID's, in action, next to halogens and etc.

Hi Freddy,

Nice HID Pics, it looks like you know a thing or two about HID's..

Can you tell me what the difference between the ProLumen Lo kit and the ProLumen Hi/Lo kit is?

Are the Lo's HID but the HI's just regular bulbs?

Thanks!

Why is it you cant use your regular Hi beams with a HID low beam kit?... it doesnt really make sense to me.

H4 Low - It's only the low beams, you lose the high beams. You don't need the high beams, trust me. Buddah on the board commented that the highs were only good for flashing or passing.

The hi/lo kit, low's are HID's and the high's are a halogen bulb. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe you need high beams to be 'legal'.

I'm not completely sure, though.

makes sense, however I just read the HTA - Lamps section and didn't see anything specifically stating highbeams or the requirement of both high and low beam.

Good to know...It could be another one of those discretionary rules...Where an official could determine whether your light output was safe enough to drive with at night. So, the beam of a 'Lo' HID would certainly suffice and be legal for dark, night time drives.

ya, the only thing i can see is that the HID will have increased light output, but whether it is over 300 candela or not is impossible to tell since there is no standard test of a lumen to a candela.

also, HID is standard on many cars now so how could it be over 300 candela from the factory, it'd be illegal. so HID should be good to go, but until someone gets a ticket and fights it and wins or losses, its still hard to be 100% certain.

I'm going with prolumen 4500K myself as soon as i pay down some debt, as long as they are aimed right and not up at the clouds, i really can't see many (there's always one in the bunch who's an ***) cops giving a ticket, since there is no clear offense commited like speeding, S. 128 HTA

Oh and to the original poster, there are no projectors for any civic that are HID, the ones you'd be seeing are like TYC projector headlights...those are meant to work with stock H4 bulb and are far from an HID projector, the TYC's will not help HID at all and may actually hurt its performance since prolumen is made to work within stock reflector housing

Thanks for all the info everyone, it is very helpful!

I am still not clear on why a ProLumen Lo HID kit causes your Stock High beams to not function.

But..

You can buy a Hi/Lo ProLumen kit and have high beam function.
