Question Disable the Daytime Running Lights?

I am wondering, is it possible to disable the daytime running lights?

Is it illegal or not?

Is it easy to do?

Thanks!

regards,
Mugen C

1 - yes, it's possible

2 - i think it's illegal, yet i don't have mine on in my EK

3 - does pulling a fuse seems easy enough for you?

if you decided to not run with your daytime running lights on, go to the fuse panel under the dash and look for the fuse for the "running lights" (that's what it saids on my 98, i don't think they can actually run though ), pull it out. done!

i've never forget turning on my lights since i also look at my gauges, so i'll know if my lights are not on. and i've never found mysrlf in a situation where i've been driving for a distance and found out that i didn't turn my lights on. so i am ok with that. as with the popo, i've been driving with no daytime running lights on since i had my 92 teg, which was 8 years ago.

btw, i think they implemented the DRL since 89 or 90, not 95 like you've said. just passing along some info.

Because with the older Honda Car...Such as my 1990 Accord. It uses "full" low beam for the DRL instead of "Dimmered" High beam.

Imagine you bought a pair of PIAA, it won't last too long as the DRL will be swithed on whenever you drive your car. The DRL just kinda wasting the life span of the light bulbs.

Also if I have "real" HID, I wouldn't want it to be on during the daytime. The bulbs are expensive, I would want it to last.

Hope you know what I mean.

DRL was on some cars back in 89-94 but not all cars (up until then car manufactures 'tested' DRL in canada). It wasn't made an industry standard until 94/95.

I disabled my DRL's on my old Civic for the same reason. I had PIAA superwhites and didn't want to prematurely burn out the bulb because of the DRL's. My DRL's killed the high beam filament on a previous set of bulbs, so I didn't want to kill the PIAA's too. I had no DRL's for over two years and never had a problem with cops.

Too bad we don't live in the U.S. Cars sold in the U.S. do not have to have DRL's (at least not yet).

So is it illegal or not because i don't see a reason to be pulled over in the day. I don't like the DRL system if you are parked at night the damn lights are on unless you shut off your car and turn it on with the E brake on.

I don't think cop will pull you over
for not having the headlights on during the daytime.

I agree with you totally,
sometimes when you pull into the park at night.
You want the option to switch off the lights
to avoid disturbing others in the park or "Parked Car" with shakey & foggy windows!

In order for any car to be certified in Canada it must be equiped with daytimers, so i guess that means that it is absolutely necessary.
I have had my car for almost 2 years without them and I have never had any trouble with cops at all.

True!

PLUS the reason they are a must is because of Canada's weather. Why would ANY car manufacturer spend time on actually make the line up of cars for Canada have a DRL and the line up for cars in the STATES on have it? All i know is that it has to do with the weather conditions (we tend to have like wierd climate compared to the states).

Do you think if the DRL was not mandatory the manufacturer would bother puttin it on for the CANADIAN CARS ONLY? I am pretty much shure they are VERY strict about this over in Vancouver now that they are cracking down on anyone who has modded their car. But over here I dont think they will be too bitchy about it UNLESS a cop really needs to give a person a ticket.

i don't have my daylighters running either, just so it looks a lot better with the blue coating of the super white lights that is reflecting off the chrome of my headlights and signal lights. but cops can pull u over if they want to for the blue coating of the lights tho i think.

plus, who likes yellow lights running anyways?.....that brings to my other question: although my lights r white when they're turned on, but for daylight running lights it's yellow (that's the reason y i disabled the daylighters). so is there a way to make the daylighters white (without turning on my headlights of course!) or is there bulbs out there we can get that can do this???....just curious.

I argee with you, even tho I don't run PIAAs, I'm still paying $50 for a set of bulbs.

After reading this I went out to my hatch and yanked the fuse. It's in the glove box so if I ever get pulled over I can replace it.

All you have to do is pull the e-brake up so it clicks ONLY once.
Not enough to engage the brake,(it usually takes 4-5 clicks before the rear brakes start to work) but the one click is enough to turn off the daytime running lights. This only works when you start the car.....if you put down the e-brake after you started the car, they would turn back on.........to turn them of again, stop and then start the engine again.
The only thing is you will have a little light in your dash that will be on, (telling you the e-brake is on). Just pull that bulb out of the dash......presto!.....the best of booth worlds.......if you see a cop, just unclick the e-brake!
(you can also hook up a little switch to the e-brake wire in the console, and then ground the other end of the switch)
