Door/Window Trim Peeling....(92 hb)
My door/window trim has lost %60 of it's "black" finish, and underneath the black is chrome. I hate chrome!!. What is the best way to remove the rest of the black "coating" on the trim so that i can paint it? Thanks!

I sanded mine down using a Black & Decker Mouse sander and painted it with that trim paint from Canadian Tire. It's held up very well. I also cleaned the metal with varsol and then used some metal primer / etching spray to make sure the paint stuck. It's holding up beautifully.

The trim paint is made by U-Fix-It by XCel and it's called Satin Finish Paint for Exterior Trim. (If you can find the Duplicolor Trim Paint, I'd suggest using that too.) It's designed to adhere to aluminum, stainless steel and plastic. Also found at CT but in the automotive section.
And FYI, the metal is not chromed, it's just shiny stainless steel. Rough it up with the sander and then put some varsol / paint thinner on it to make sure it's perfectly clean prior to priming and painting.

I gotta vouch for ryan's method, I've seen his window linings, they look really good, once mine peel off some more I'll have to do it too.

I'm just gonna replace mine... if I do one per year, that's only $80/year to maintain a mint car. Mine arent' cracked yet, but I see cracks starting to develop. I tried tire shine and rubber silicone spray and stuff to help it....
