I used dupli-colour paint to paint my stock rims, and they are holding up fine. The paint is reliable, but yes it will look like **** when it wears off (unless the half gunmetal, half chipped look comes in style).
I think they will look good when your done.

If you're painting them, I'd highly suggest stripping the clearcoat right off, sanding them down a bit, priming them with metal etching primer and then finally laying down the paint.

I used this drill attachment, like a sponge. Took off all the paint donw to the metal. Then i just sanded a few spots just a bit, put a whole big peice of news paper around the rim. My rims have a polished lip so i cut a big circle outlining the lip. Taped everything off so none of the lip and tire were shown. Cleaned it with acetone. Got a big peice of cardboard, set it up so it could block the wind. Used some automotive primer. Primer'd em with one coat, 10 minutes later one coat of the Duplicolor Gunmetal paint. Came out really nice. Less costs of paint the better. So try to put on the least possible, won't chip as much. And be SUPER careful when you put the rims back on, my foot slipped from supporting the bottom of the wheel and it touched my wheel studs and on one wheel i have 5 nice little chips. ill just use a q-tip and tocuh it up. I did my last two wheels today.

Yeah, you definately need to get that factory clearcoat off. I just used paint stripper from CT, can be found in the paint isle.
The drill bit can also be purchased from CT. It is a piece that you can use in your drill, and works very well. I have one that is actual small pieces of sandpaper that spin around, and I also have one that is hard as a rock, and also very rough. If your stock rims are in decent shape I wouldn't suggest using this one, cause this thing tears shiit up. I had to use it on mine, because mine were in awful shape.
Hope that helps.

I used a product from Behr that you can find in the paint aisle at Home Depot (gatherer can attest to its effectiveness). The product is simply called "The Stripper".
You'll also need some heavy duty gloves to prevent it from eating the skin off your fingers and some 3M abrasive pads will come in handy.
Let the stripper eat away at the paint/clearcoat for about 15-20 minutes, blast it off with a hose (or pressure washer) and then get at the rest of it with the abrasive pads.
Repeat this process until it's all gone.
You can get good results if you do it like I said: http://www.torontocivics.com/tccforu...threadid=50023
