Having any aftermarket HID lighting system installed on a non-HID equipped vehicle is illegal, and is ground for tickets from the polices.

Having said that, however, HIDs in the range of 3K (yellowish), and 8K or above (blueish-purpleish) may make your car a more likely target for tickets.

Within North America, your HID kit is legal up to 8000k. 10 000 and 12 000 are considered illegal. Even though higher kelvin ratings after 8 000 actually become dimmer, the light transmitted has to much of a variance in color change and become a distraction for the drivers in the opposite lane. Your hid should be fine as long as it is under 8000 k.

Out on country roads, ppl usually flash me b/c of my 8000k HID. Is that b/c there are no other source of lighting (ie.street lights) and it is a lot brighter? I had no prob in the city though.

im sorry i don't have much to say about the topic except that my buddy had them on his JDM EK and didn't get any hassle from the cops, as long as your ride is clean the cops drive by you without even second guessing, if you look like a ricer then your just asking for it.

and xray, your sig is jokes man, haven't laughed like that in a while.

you probably got flashed, because in the country people don't really know what hid is and probably thought you had fog light on. Or they just couldn't see since the roads in country are not well lit they can't see with white light on their eyes.

stick with 4300k, anything more then that and you are going to lose light output.

the Most I would go is 6k if you want to attract attention, but I don't... so I'm happy with 4300k

You are not allowed to do any modifications to your car!
I have all those BS ($110) tickers for illegal license plate lights, illegal tints, illegal steering wheel…..
If cop don’t like you… he’ll give you a ticket for being ugly…

I installed my 6000K last night and I love them! I know this isn't a "love your lights?" topic, but I do.. LOL
Drago is right, and must be pretty ugly to get tickets for that, but any "lights" mods to your car is technically not allowed.
Read the packages of the products you buy. There's a reason they say "For off-road use only"....

Apparently, the 99-00 honda civic fog lights which are oem are supposedly for show purposes and are not made for the streets.

This topic has been debated many times before, and I am not sure if we ever came to a conclusion. Bottom line is that if your car did not come with HIDs stock, you could get pulled over by the cops.

It's just like the tint rule. It doesn't say anywhere what percentage tint you are allowed to have on the front side windows, but if the cop deems that they are too dark, they will ticket you.

Personally in my old car I had 20% tint all around and HIDs and I have never been pulled over, but at the same time I know people who have been, so it's hard to say.

If you don't want to be harassed by cops then don't install HIDs. If you want to take a chance, install them, but keep in mind that if the cops pull you over they may ticket you regardless of what colour lights they are.

i truly hate the person who first rebased bulbs and allowed morons to put HID bulbs in halogen reflector housings.

i just installed 6k HID, i do find them a bit bright and i feel bad for on coming traffic. I'm hoping is it true that with time the bulb does get a bit dimmer?
