kinda like an oily film on windshield
twas raining tonight and my car was a bitch to drive coz it was hard to see through the windshield. everytime the wiper makes a pass, theres like a film of oil on the glass. i tried windex but it didnt do much. before this happened i cleaned the glass with foaming glass cleaner made by Gunk, im suspecting this caused it but not sure. any suggestions to clean the windshield so theres no oily film like on the glass???TIA

if you can find it..
barkeeps (bartenders) friend or something along those lines..
i'm not exactly sure of the name..
it's what they use at bars to clean their glass counter tops..
non-abrasive..!!
and if you can find it, please let me know..i'm still looking for it..

hmmmm..going by your original post you said that when the wiper blades went across the window that it left a oily streak..
are your wipers on the inside of the car??
we are talking about exterior right??
i'm just having a problem understanding how smoking inside the car might affect the outside of it..
something else to try tho would be a 50/50 mix alcohol and water..
or vinegar and water.. maybe 75/25
for the outside only tho..
if yer doing the inside and tinted i'd try what i've got, but i can't remember the name of it off hand either.. Eagle i think..

Go to Walmart and pick up a bottle of something called auto glass stripper (or something like that). It will clean all of the film, oxidization, etc. off of your windshield. After you use that, put on a coat of rain-x and your problem should be gone. Also clean your wipers with some vinegar, as this will get any residue off your blades.
