Let a bodyshop apply the clear or DIY it?
I just finished painting my rims gunmetal,
I used the usual steps of cleaning and prepin the rims..
and then used gunmetal paint from a spray can onto the rims...
but I figure I need some clearcoat on it...
so my question is would it be better to let a bodyshop apply the clear or shoud I do it myself?

seeing as u did the rims yourself why not clear coat them yourself?
IMO it'd be a waste to pay a body shop to do that, it'll chip eventually regardless of who applies the clear
if you were going to powdercoat i'd say have them do everything but if you DIY'ed the paint job DIY the clear too

clear in the spray cans doesnt apply the same as bodyshops do, i would take them to a shop and have em cleared properly. Shouldnt cost too much at all and the finish will be way nicer.

Clear in a can works ok but if you have a compressor, go to princess auto and get a paint gun and some clear.
Clear coat them yourself.
I'm trying to get away for painting ish with cans now.
