My Learn-and-Paint Thread (with Pictures, and some help from you guys)
I am a beginner when it comes to car, especially to painting car parts. But I am going to post my progress here, and hopefully you will be able to learn some things here, and will be able to help me answer some questions I might have on the way.
HELP: if you see anything that does not seem right, can you post here and let me know?
Project: Prepping and painting a set of brand new fiberglass side skirt
Start Date: March 5, 2006
Hours to date: 5 hours
First 5 Hours
Spent 5 hours wet-sanding one side skirt with 400 grit 3M wet sandpaper. The end result was smooth, but not super smooth, as I want to leave some teeth on the side skirt for the primer to adhere on (let me know if this is not right):

your wrong when you say your leaving the finish at 400 grit so there is some roughness for the primer to grab too. use atleast 600 grit and wetsand it down completely until its super smooth. if you want to go even more hardcore go 800 grit. but it will take forever to get it to smooth out unless you use 600 first and then go to 800.

agreed..going to paint, get 'er down to 800
i'd say sure to the 400 if maybe you were planning to vinyl it
shouldn't have any probs taking off the white shyt, if it's just some sort of sealer..
if it was say bondo or something like a filler i say leave it...
then i'd hit it with spot putty followed with filler primer, take out any imperfections that sanding won't give you..
prob 3 coats..
then sand to 800, clean 'er down and pull out the gun
