maybe you were misinformed, wet sanding and sand blasting are two very different processes.

wet sanding is sanding using a liquid, usually high grit (1000+)

and sand blasting is using compressed air and some sort of media (sand in this case), to remove paint, rust or anything else on an object. only used on metal parts.

So, to restore old paint, just take your car to get detailed and polished. If done properly, it can turn out awesome. Or, you could just wash your car with dish detergent to remove old wax, and re-wax it.

Take it to a good detailer that does highspeed buffing/polishing, diamondcut, etc.

At my buddy's place I watched his detailers take an '80 something Vette with red paint that was oxodized and faded to ****. By the end of the day it was shiney red again, like new. Costs though. Expect to spend $300+ for a good place and a good finish.

You would not do that to old paint in an effort to make it look better.

Best bet is to get it detailed. They will use a high speed buffer and polish your old paint.
