1990 civic hatchback Car Starts With dead battery but dies shortly after a drive
Hi i have a problem if anyone can help' i will explain as best as i can for anyone who can understand to help me trouble shoot the problem.
ok so i just bougt a 1990 honda civic hatchback 1.6L Manual Transmission
The battery is completely dead so i was able to boost the car with jumper cables. as soon as i disconnect them the car dies 50% of the time and the other 50% it stays on and i am able to make it half way up the block before it dies out?
now theres many things im worrying about right now.
Ignition distrubiter?
Alternator?
im not sure what im dealing with here but the engine runs and idles very nice and quiet if anyone knows my problem or what it could be that would save me alot of work,
thanks guys i hope someone can help me out

bad alternator and probably a dead battery..
I only know of one way to test the alternator and that is by removing the positive terminal while the car is on , if the car shuts down then the alternator is bad... However a lot of people dont like to test the alternator like that as it could cause damage..
I ve done it plenty of times on different cars and i never seen a problem but i guess i have to let you know ( search on google) .. Thats the way people do it back home and i never heard them complaining but i have read a lot of people against this method
However by now you probably drain your battery so your best bet would be to take it to a mechanic , and that may mean towing it , unless you could change the alternator yourself
Personally i dont think its your ignition control module as you are able to start your car with boost , but i m not an expert ...
