97 coupe help

97 coupe help

I bought a 97 coupe si today its MINT...needs a motor tho...i was lookin at puttin a z6 in it for now till i get the cash for a decent swap....so say i put a d16z6 in it what all do i gotta change i know i gotta change the motor mount but what else? thanks

I'm quite sure the mounts will work. What you'll need is a conversion harness and p28 ecu.

You'll need to change your distributor plug and alternator plug.

That's about it. Mounts will work.

You'll also have to change the IAT sensor plug, prolly rig up some sort of throttle cable bracket (or extension) and I would definately recommend converting to obd1 to use the proper p28 ecu.

so i guess if i dont wanna mess around and just find a quick drop in i should look for a cheap y8 lol....any one got one?

just get a d16y8, same engine that was in it before and u dont have to change a thing and their the same price, plus 2 horsepower more then d16z6 lol

+1 just make sure you keep your eye on the oil level.


Did the car come with the engines wiring harness and ECU? If it did than just make sure the engine you get matches the transmission type (5-speed or auto).

Or try and get a complete D16y8 drop-out thats obd2a, that way it comes with everything you need since 97 was obd2a.
