I wanted to see if I could get quick help from someone on the site as I'm looking to buy a 99 civic coupe shell today. It has the original engine w/280kms and I wanted to know if there was hope or another engine is mandatory.

Here's the deal: Car starts and drives fine but the engine is running on 3 cylinders only. The prev. owner does not know the problem and assumes it is due to 1 foul spark plug. Sure enough, we pulled out each plug wire and all made a diff except for 1.

I was told that there are only a few possibilities:
1. Bad plug
2. Bad plug wire
3. Bent valves
4. Bad Headgasket

So I know it's not the headgasket since the car doesn't blow smoke at all. It's Sunday and no shop is open nor any part store to buy another plug. Despite the car having high mileage it is in MINT shape. Not a single rust spot, dent or scratch. original paint and very quiet when running. Im buying it for a shell but I might need to drive it for abit before swapping in the engine I wanted so I wanted to see if there was hope.

BTW: THe check engine light flashes and then its solid when driving. It drives good, the power seems to be there. Does not overheat but only when it idles you notice the bogging. PLEASE and THNK YOU!
