B16 poor gas and issues...
Hello I just completed a b16 swap in a friends car.
1st issue :
Gas millage 360 kms with new motor tunned vs. 560 kms with D15bvtec stock p28.
2nd issue:
from 1st 6,000-8,000+rpm shifting into 2nd just bounces off rev limiter but goes in gear... and if u quickly shift to 3rd then u gotta lay off gas and then it'll go okie. If u do it at 5,000 rpm it'll do the smallest tire squeak.
I think it's something once vtec engages ? Other then that car runs perfectly! Sometimes it does this from 2nd to 3rd too ?
Motor b16 tranny gs-R lsd.
I told him its gotta be some tranny sensor, speed sensor etc or a problem with wiring / dizzy.
Motor has new clutch kit and new dizzy, new t belt/ water pump, new plugs,pcv valve etc.
Motor pulls hard! has cams, i/h/e, adj. gears etc....

who did the tuning?
I'd go back and complain about the crappy mileage. Could be that he's not emptying the tank completely, how many litres of gas does he put in the car when filling up?
My boosted b16 gets 400-450kms a tank, every tank summer or winter. I usually put 35 litres of gas in when I fill it.

theres nothing wrong with it being left in open loop, as long as the tuning is up to par. Thats actually how i've acheived the mileage i have, closed loop makes the car run a little richer and the AFR is always fluctuating (due to the design of the closed loop system) so i noticed less mileage when the car was in closed loop.

Cams I think he said r stage 1 Skunk2's or stage 2 perhaps.
There is a smell of gas sometimes so there could be a lil leak or something somewhere?
But whats really troubling him is the 1st-2nd issue.
I think its some wiring issue. its a b16 on p06 ecu maybe vtec pressure switch or something else... ???

its a tuning issue. If it wasnt a professional tuner, i would suggest having zeeman tune it.
But if you do go to zeeman for tuning, Id ensure that EVERYTHING is in working order before. Check the basics, compression test it, pull plugs to see if they all match, little things like that.

I don't think its a tunning issue.
Reason was because I had this motor on a crappy baseline teknotik ecu... ran the same way, had it on a splitfire ran same way, had it on a cheap ebay one ran same way, had a stock chipped burned from the u.s. ran same way. It must be something in the wiring.... or dizzy I think.
Also car has a starting issue sometimes...
it'll crank but it won't start... after a few times it'll start.
Only started doing this within the last week.
Main relay? ign. control module? wiring? I think it's linked to the load @ 1st gear once vtec hits and it just bounces off rev limiter.

i've seen that a few times, once it was the vtec pressure sensor, the other times it was the dizzy.
When my dizzy crapped out on me, it would hit a random rev limit. Saw this recenly on another obd0 car converted to obd1 that used a junkyard obd1 dizzy.

yes my good friend started this thread for my current setup.
Anyways... car now hit 460 kms.
Driven same way shifting 3-4k.
Leting warm up until needle moved to the lowest line all the time b4 driving.
I think its an issue with gas station.
1 gas station always gets me crappy gas millage...been happening for 2 yrs now! it used to get me like 60-70 kms less per tank on my old D setup.
Now on the b16 a 100 k difference.
Both gas stations R sunoco.... 94 both times.
Any1 know where I can get these gases tested?
Im pretty sure that 1 sunoco is pumping 87 gas in its 94 section!
This has been happening for 2 yrs now.....
Also today i had no choice but to use esso 91 as i was running low and the sunoco in downtown shut down that my gps guided me too lol....
So i went on higway ripping it an vtec was really loud!
I think there must be a problem with my vtec sys... most of the time its been pretty quiet.... just a tad louder then a sohc.... nothing like a b16 lol.
So i'll go an change the pressure switch.....
