Chiped D16A Question

I recently Bought 95 Civic Dx, with a chipped vtec engine, my main question is how does it sounds like a DOCH Vtec when its only SOCH usually theres only a single stage of vtec on SOCH, my last civic dint sound as aggressive as this one

it doesn't matter how it sounds it optimized for best exchange to the high cam. the lower its engaged the more pronounced it can be but doesn't mean that is what is best.

It should only sound "aggressive" when it's in the VTEC rpm range.

My D16y8 sounds more prominent and "aggressive" compared to my buddies old D16z6 ever did...but truth be told the 'sound' you hear when VTEC engages will sound different with a different Intake & Exhaust setup, just because of parts variation.

most SOHC's have a quiet if not unnoticeable vtec crossover compared to the DOHC's. This is because on the DOHC's both the intake AND exhaust cams have the extra VTEC lobe so all 4 valves per cylinder are being affected by the vtec crossover. Whereas the SOHC only has the extra VTEC lobe on the intake side, so only 2 valves per cylinder are being affected.

Although, i have heard a couple of SOHC's that have a loud crossover similar to a dohc vtec engine.

On the stock d16z6 that was in my car I couldn't even really hear the vtec crossover and I had a SRI and exhaust at the time.

Which D16 vtec engine is in there? D15b? D16z6? D16y8?

Thats exactly how the crossover sounds like on my 96 DX Coupe with a D16y8 from a 97 EL with the only mod i have is the custom intake i made...
