Exclamation D15B Vtec swap **PLEASE HELP**

Hey all!

so the short-story is that my good old D16Y7 Non-Vtec blew up yesterday in my 2000 civic hatch, so im looking into a few different swaps. turns out i found an awesome condition jdm D15B Vtec engine with <70 000kms on it! Problem is, it only comes with what you see here minus the distributer/alternator.

So really, i have 5 questions for you guys;

1) Can someone supply me with a detailed list of parts i'm going to need for the swap?

2) Will there be any problems putting this engine in my car?

3) Can anyone explain to me what custom work im going to have to do to wire up Vtec?

4) Will any d-series tranny mate with the d15b?

5) Can anyone link me a good engine swap walkthrough? i'm going to have the help of my mechanic friends while doing the swap but i would like to familiarize myself with the procedure as to not look like a noob...

Thanks in advance!
Ben

p.s. please dont tell me to search the forums, obviously i already have i just want to know specific information on this d16y7 -> d15b swap thank you.

No, straight drop

3) Can anyone explain to me what custom work im going to have to do to wire up Vtec?
Will need to run 2 wires from the solenoid to the ecu. Cannot remember the pins in the ecu
Also, since the iac valve plug is different, you will need to either use your d16y7 intake manifold which is honestly crap, or rewire the plug.

4) Will any d-series tranny mate with the d15b?
Yes, though should use a transmission of an engine that was vtec. Those transmissions have shorter gears and the vtec engine responds a lot better with appropriate transmission.

Thanks scrid3r, good to hear! do you know anything about rewiring the iac plug?

also, i found a f23a vtec swap out of a 2000 accord for cheaper.
is this a more difficult swap? is it a reliable swap?

I used the dizzy and alternator from my Y7 with no problems.

As scrid3r mentioned above, you'll need to do the 3 wire to 2-wire IACV plug fix. Basically you cut your 3-wire connector and attach a 2-wire connector. The wire that you do NOT attach is orange if I recall correctly. Check ffsquad's website for the tutorial. This is what I used with no problems.

Also, the picture shows OBD1 injectors. What you'll need to do is either rewire your harness with those injector plugs, or get OBD2 VTEC D or B series injectors (D16Y7 injectors are not the same) and install those so you don't have to cut up your harness further.

It's not too hard of a swap. I did it a couple years ago.

You'll also need a proper ECU to run this motor. I used a P28 ECU with a P08 map through an OBD2B-1 conversion harness. I have heard of ppl using a D16Y8 ECU, but I'm not a fan of that kind of thing. Get the proper map for your motor.

If you're going to run OBD1, it's best to just get OBD2 peripherals (dizzy, alternator, injectors, etc) and then have the OBD1 conversion done with the patch harness.

just my 2 cents.

And another thing. I used the same transmission that was on my D16Y7 with the D15B, and it SUCKED! Spend the extra $ and get a D series "Si" transmission or the matching transmission to your D15B. Trusttttt me! lol

you're y7 distributor will NOT fit on a d15b V-TEC motor. You need a d-series v-tec distributor.
