Engine swap or repair?

Engine swap or repair?
Hey guys,
So as the summer winds down i've began to think about my winter beater...
I have a 94 civic dx , the d15 it currently is running has almost 400,000 k on it and it burns oil.
My question is should i look into purchasing a new d15 because its a winter beater im not looking for performance, just a motor that runs and doesn't burn oil. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to motors but i wouldn't mind doing some research and finding another d15 thats burning oil and replace the rings? Is it worth it the trouble of finding a nother motor to repair it then get it swapped in or should i just find a complete d15 and have it swapped?
Is it a tough job to replace the rings? would that be all i need in the motor to make it stop burning oil?
Just looking to get some advice...I hate being a noob with engines
thanks in advance.

Yes it is a tough job to replace the rings. I say this because there are numerous precise measurements you have to take and a few speciality tools you have to purchase.
You should do a compression test on your motor before you give it the boots. If its really bad, just purchase another d15.. they go for about 100$. Just make sure you can compression test it before purchase.
