engine trouble?
Hey guys i just bought a 96 civic si with a jdm D15b motor.
im new to this so sorry if it is a stupid question.
when the rpms get to around 5600 or so the engine just lags, isnt that when vtec should kick in?
thanks in advance!

you could be getting another code for the vtec solenoid or vtec pressure switch, or maybe even another code that will effect whether vtec works or not.
Either way, check the code and post up the results and we can help you out some more.

that depends on what ecu you have in the car. I think your car had an obd2 computer originally but it should have a obd1 comp like a p28 or socketed p06 to run that motor properly. sounds to me like the motor was swapped and harness connectors were just left unhooked where the obd1 engine didn't have the obd2 sensors. If this is the case the ecu has probably why it's lagging above certian rpm and your vtec is likely not working either as a result.

Do a search, it's been explained a dozen times. It's actually very easy to check for codes on honda's. The only down-fall would be the diagnosis of the items. I am not sure how comfortable you are with electrical diagnosis, but if you are uncomfortable, shoot zeeman or myself an e-mail or come by our shop for assistance!
