Hot Oil Gauge

Hot Oil Gauge
Hey folks,
Should be an easy one to answer, but I obviously don't know it.
Yesterday and today, I had a couple long driving days. Close to home, the oil gauge shoots up to 3/4 at one point almost hitting the H. It would do it while driving at 80km/h and its definitely not hot out there. When idling, it would calm down, but starts up again. I had to turn the fan all the way to max and at full heat to cool it off. Seems to have worked a bit.
So.... long question short... What's the problem?
Thanks!

I think you mean the coolant temp gauge. Civic's don't have oil temp gauges, unless you have put in an aftermarket gauge.
Could be a number of reasons why your engine was getting hot. Check the coolant level and check for any leaks first.
How many km's on the car?

yep, it's your coolant temp gauge....could be a few things:
1. Is there any coolant in your rad/resevoir?
2. Did you have service done on your rad recently? If so, it could be an air lock in the system.
3. Broken thermostat (cheap and easy fix)
4. Leak in the coolant system (are you losing any fluid when stopped?)
It's more than likely one of those. My guess is broken thermostat, provided you have coolant in the system and it's not low or dry.
