How do I know if it's Vtec?

Hey everyone.
My car's in the shop getting an engine put in. I know a tech, so they're doing it on the cheap. It was supposed to be a straight swap, D15B7 no Vtec, but he called me to day telling me that the engine that was sent to him is Vtec. Once he puts it in, how can I tell if it is or not? Should it say on the valve cover? I have a feeling that once he installs it he isn't going to chip the ecu or program it, or run the wire for the Vtec solenoid...
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks!

I wouldn't really call it new... its very tricky to do and involves lots of careful sticker placement.
way too technical for most

Yeah because today I called him and asked him if he hooked it up and he wasn't sure... LOL
He said it's in and running and that the timing was done.
So I'll just pick it up and check it out...
I'll shoot some pix and y'all can take a look...

Would know, should know...Doesn't know..
I have a feeling they don't do many swaps there...
It's alright. Labour is cheap, and I know he'll take care of it if something happens to it.
I know it's gotta be wired up. He's the owner of the shop, but I don't think he's seen the underside of a hood in 15 years... He's too busy "owning"...

Well, engine including labour is $1200, then I got some other work done as well, and that includes a new timing belt and w/p... and all the necessities to make it run. and he says it's running...
