i have a 98 hOnda civic, recently my alternator died and i had it rebuilt, while the alternator was tripping my stock speedometer was tripping (going all over the place). Now after i changed the alternator my speedometer stopped working, how do i fix it.

 

locate the speedo, unplug the connector, remove the 10mm bolt and carefully pry the speedo out of the transaxle.

 

The Alternator charge, VSS and Primary o2 run on the same circuit. Before you replace the VSS check the fuses under the dash. IIRC it will be labeled as the 'Alternator' fuse.

Also theres a common problem with EK's where the engine harness rubs on the intake manifold and causes a short. It was a recall even and its related to this issue.
