Hey i had a posting up here not too long ago about my speedo not working. Installed a b16a into a 98 civic. I've traced all wires and they are all conected to the correct plug. I am using a obd1 vtec ecu and obd1 harness and I have a jumper harness that connects to the ecu to the engine wire harness. Is there a chance my instrument cluster being an obd2 will not be able to read the obd1 ecu correctly? If so should i use an obd2 vtec ecu? This problem is driving me crazy?

If you have an obd1 harness, there is no need for a conversion harness down at the ecu. So go and sell that. Your cluster is not obd2, lol.. so don't worry about your cluster.

So what excatly is your problem here? Is your speedo not working AT all? Or is it bouncing around? Have you tried replacing the sensor?

 

I have replaced my speedo sensor but still nothing. There is no movement at the speedo at all. It was suggested to me that i may have an obd2 to obd1 issue but if my harness is obd1 and ecu is obd1 i don't see the need for the conversion. This is driving me nuts. The rest of the cluster is working just fine so i am confused with this.

 

wait...you have an obd1 engine harness in your obd2 car?

 

Sorry no the harness is obd2 but it is different from the d16y8 harness. It does need the jumper harness cause it wont plug in directly to the ecu. I've tried 2 different vss and now i think i am gonna try a diff cluser.
