Unhappy Need help on Engine / acceleration problem

Hello All First post.

I have an issue which is now unbearable anymore and cannot find answers.

I have a Civic 97 EX 4D sedan.

On some days its a good boy and others very bad.

When I accelerate (pressing on gas) is feels like someone is pressing on the break, much like a instructor car when the instructor assist you when in class.

what I have to do is tap the gas like shifting in manual, and it goes on for a few min. If I feel this sensation, I pull over and stop my civic will feeling like rumbling, going to stall then its fine.

I have already changed the fuel filter, changed the sparks. Friends suggested the the cables need to be changed or get a full transmission fluid flush or maybe the onboard computer module...

Anyone know?

Sounds like a plugged catalytic converter to me. Does it still have it's original exhaust?

I'd check the distributor cap and rotor as well.

I highly doubt it's the ecu or tranny fluid.

Can you better describe this "sensation" you felt?

I agree, could be an exhaust problem.

I have my Cat fall apart inside. Lost all power, and wouldn't make an power about 3000rpms...

Yes my civic 97 is an automatic and everything is original, no rust just a great car.

Let me in detail describe it again:

I give gas...... its slowly decreases power even with foot on gas, goes to a certain level of slowlness then "BAM" I get all this power saved up and go like a rocket.

When I get this feeling I usually stop on the right and brake, my car will rumble/shake/stalling then very quiet/smooth then everything is fine for 1/2 a day.

Some days its like nothing happen, some days constant.

To overcome this I just give gas, when I feel declining I let go of foot and again apply gas..... I think my civic guzzles gas like no tmr.

Would have to say the distributor. Its missing or retarding the timing.
