Stalling Problem

since I first got my car, its always had this problem stalling just after starting it.. but always started again (after a little cranking)

but on saturday it stalled at a red light and took quite awhile to get going again.

I'm not really sure where to start, but I'm thinking its the fuel pump..

any ideas to what it could be?

its a D16Z6, BTW

does the fuel pump prime when you try to start it?

I'd try another main relay first, civics/del sols are bad for main relays going.

On 5th gens they are located on the interior fuse box.. way up at the top.

You can actually re-solder them to correct the problem. If not.. you'll have to go to Honda.. I believe they are around 60bucks. Search on honda-tech.. there are a bunch of threads on this.

Mmmm..

it stalled out twice on me today (in a row)..

it feels like theres an air bubble in the line.

dude.. its not an air bubble.

Is it a bone stock car? (meaning no swap, ecu swap) If so.. do you smell alot of fuel when you are trying to start it? (when its just cranking)

I'd pull your plugs and see what they look like. If they are black.. most likely you have a failing ignition component (coil, igniter, etc)

oh, I know theres not an air bubble in it, but thats what it feels/sounds like.. dont ever smell any fuel when starting it.

I'll pull the plugs and see what they look like.

as for ignition components.. I run..

NGK Plugs
MSD Wires
MSD Power Cap
MSD Blaster SS Coil

they all have less then 4000km on them.

Well then I doubt its ignition related.. but you never know. It could be a sensor inside the distributor giving you a tough time. But usually.. you will smell fuel if you have no spark. The smell of a 'flooded' engine is real strong.. especially if you have the interior blower on.

So if you don't smell fuel, I'd look into something fuel related. But before you do anything I would recommend trying to check if you have spark/fuel when its just cranking. It sounds like its doing it more and more often.. so when it does happen, get a friend to crank while you check for spark.

Do you have a fuelpressure gauge Mark?

I dont have a F/P gauge

the problem with checking for spark is I'm usally alone when it happens.. I'll have to see if I can get it to do it in the driveway one day.

alrighty!..

I went to northbay on sunday morning (6am) when it was nice and cold and it never acted up.

but on the way home on monday when it was hot on the highway it acted up a little.

once when I was doing about 100km and droped it down to 3rd and went to pass someone, about 2-3 seconds after I let out the clutch it jerked really bad (like slamming on the brakes) then took off again??

same thing happened when I was in stop and go traffic.

I went to the honda dealership to price out a new main relay but there like $98, kinda pricey for something that it might not even be.

anyone happen to know where I can get a cheap one, or borrow one for a few days??
