Trouble with car

Hi everyone, I was driving home to Hamilton 2 days ago when my car started acting weird. The speedometer wasn't working and the check engine light came on so I thought it might be something wrong with the cluster because I swapped it a couple weeks back..as i was driving, the radio started turning on and off and it didn't seem like I had headlights even though they were supposedly on. Sensing something wrong, I pulled to the side of the road and turned off my car, then it would not start again. Jumped the wire and read cel codes 20 and 41, any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks in advance

20 = electrical load detector
41 = O2 sensor

Are you OBD1 or 2?

it could possibly be your alternator or simply a alternator fuse in fuse box under dash
pretty much need to know what car you have then everyone can go from there

very likely its your alternator messing around.
does the car still run? or you had it towed?
i remember back in the day i was cruizing with my brother in his civic, when cluster lights went out, then deck and clock. car started bogging down and stalled in the end. alternator died on us in London, while we were on our way back to toronto.

Hey it's an obd2 1996 civic with a jdm b16a swap, ya I had to get it towed like 25 kms. The car does not run anymore, when I try to crank it there's no sound and doesn't turn on.

Changed the alternator yesterday, changed a blown fuse and reset the clock fuse thing and drove it back to toronto from hamilton..drove it a bit today and the dreaded engine light came up, jumped it and it was the same codes again 20 and 41. Any ideas?

check that fuse again and see if it's blown, if it is possible short? if not your bat might be toast

Ok well replacing the alternator is not going to fix your oxygen sensor problem. Replace the sensor. In most cases code 20 is a dummy code, if you just have a code 20, then you will most likely have to replace the fusebox.

just an update/future reference, fixed the problem, it was a short from somewhere, a bunch of wires were just flopping around from the previous owner and i took them out, changed the fuse and no more problems..searching online it seems to be a problem with 96-98 civics from the engine wire harness rubbing onto the intake manifold, so if anyone else has the same problem just try taking it out and taping up any damaged areas

alternator for sure....I had the same thing happen to me on my way home from hamilton to! haha Actually for me there was a short in the engine wiring harness which caused the alternator to short out.
