yea i really wouldn't wanna do the same thing for 6 years.. the one guy said it was his 3rd year I believe... the next step up you gotta buy your own kart if I'm not mistaking.. but if I'm as into it then as I am now and I don't see why I wouldn't be I'll be purchasing a shifter kart next yr....

i went yesterday
they didn't run big track
i don't care, i wanted to see if i can run the small track w/o lifting anyway.
it was not too bad.
going from GX200s to shifter will be a HUGE jump.
not to mention you need some deep wallets to do so, since it IS an open class
you don't have to buy a kart if you want to run something faster.
just talk to bob. i did and i'm gonna be running a rotax as early as next week.

Last sunday when i threw in the towel before the 12 lap main in the wet, I talked to bob and asked him if he has any test dates for rotax. He then asked if i'd like to run it this year. Basically what happens is he loans you the kart ready to go for free, and you pay the consumables and repairs if anything breaks. Consider it as u'r running and competing on a car that you didn't purchase, but it's yours for the season. (you give the kart back at the end of the season) I decided to run Rotax purely on the fact that it's 125cc which is PLENTY quick, it's what they call a TaG kart -- touch and go. it has an onboard electric starter, you don't need a push. just hop in, turn on the starter, and push the start button; it's a spec motor class; which means i don't have to dump huge $$ on the motor and can use it on more important stuff: track time and tires. I also did this cuz I hate buying race cars (don't ask how i learned this). The chassis might be a year old, but it's better than dumping 8 grand for a 2004 PTK chassis, or dumping in 4 grand for that 2003 chassis. Basically i saved myself 4 grand the way i look at it.
if you look at the hamilton kart club page, click the link w/ karts for sale
go to used karts
he has 9 2003 Biesse Rotax karts. i don't think he sold any of those yet; that's what i think i'm running.

as far as i know, you can get world formula karts for the same deal. those are 4 stroke Briggs motor @ around 14-16 hp.
i'm gonna run rotax only on open practice for now and brencole on my race dates. i figure in a month to 6 weeks, i should have gathered the minimum seat time that i think i'll be handle wheel to wheel.
don't plan on racing a whole lot of rotax. i only need six to eight events to satisfy the minimum i need for a regional license anyway. gonna play it by the ear.

(show up early sunday or on thurs open practice to see truly how fast those suckers go. i can't imagine the learning curve on those things)

I definately wanna come out during one of those times to see them for next year...

the paddle one is the RM1. it's powered by a rotax motor yes, but Hamilton doesn't run those in a class. Very different from the FR125s cuz it's direct driven, 2 speeds and front/rear brakes.
the "normal" rotax kart is just a single speed 125cc kart.
shifter karts are indeed the ones w/ the metallic handle to change the gears.
nothing wrong w/ single speed karts in fact if anything you need to be even more precise (just like the rookie series karts) cuz you don't have a lower gear to bail you out of mistakes.
