Just outta curiosity how durable are you finding the kart.. I know u were sayin you got that agreement w/ bob he lends u the kart for the year exclusively and you just make the necessary replacements/repairs... how has it been so far? anything needed to be changed yet?

nothing on the kart needed changing, but i've already bought 6 spark plugs, a fuel filter and 11 sets of "used but not used up" tires as well as a better fitting seat.

other than that, it's been fine.

just don't get into accidents cuz you WILL bend/break something. a friend of a friend racked up 1000 bucks in repair bill cuz he trashed the kart AND blew a motor.

I would have thought the karts to be decently ruggid ... like I woulda thought it could take a hit or two espeically b/c that it is almost certain that the kart will get into an accident at some point or another... how much bang can it sustain?

it ain't nascar. i'll just leave it at that

the karts aren't meant to walk damage free from accidents. small bumps here and there prolly..nothing that makes the word "crash" comes to mind tho. those you'll feel in ur wallet for sure.

I find that really odd... we were debating that at one point... although I guess when we had the discussion we were considering the speeds of the rookie karts.. the speeds the rotax ones go might cause considerable more damage b/c of the extra speeds that could be a factor when hitting someone else...

i think even w/ the rookie karts, you'll still bend something if the angle was right.

in a rotax you'll definitely do more then bending in worst case scenarios.

you suffer some heavy dmage when u car have an accident at 90+km/h

nevermind a kart

Yea I suppose your right... I just woulda thought that they would help design the kart in such a way that if there were an accident it would cause minimal damage...

It would suck to drop say 4000 on a used kart to bend the frame or something in the first race...

it's racing
**** breaks sometimes.

that's just how the game is.

i mean, i don't condone people going out of their way to do a "bump and pass", but accidents happen at the track, we all know that.

i've always thought that if ppl can't make a clean pass (ie, they needed to bump the kart out of the way before they successfully pass the person), then the spot wasn't deserved.

if everyone bumped before they passed, you'd be driving bumper cars

heh I'm just playin with ya.. although black86hatch brings up a good point... to punk's defence it was coming out of the corner before the long straight away... he went wide the the person in front of him went wider... and as a result spun out... that's when the black flag came out ...

well the only real reason that accident on the straight happened was cause my car had little or no brakes... you may recall earlier that race when i past like 4 cars on yellow cause everybody was bunched up and i couldn't slow down

but also he swurved into me when i went to pass him cause i was right behind him and i cut to the left to pass and for some reason he did to

and the second bump wasn't my fault either cause i was ahead of him in the turn and he still cut into me...

Had a lil time to do some calculations thus far, here's what i've racked up.

bought 11 sets of practice tires + a better fittiing seat -- 320
set of used magnesium wheels -- 250
6 denso plugs (3 different heat ranges, 2 of each) -- 90
used set of YGK tires that i need for racing -- 75

aside from the 35 pounds of ballast that i still need, that's it. i don' tneed to buy anymore practice tires. What's left is if I decide to race in the rain, I need another set of aluminum wheels that i'll find on ebay or the net, a set of rain tires and I'm good to go.

might buy 2 sprocket gears but those aren't a big deal.

biggest expense will definitely be gas, oil and tires.

i drove around 70-80 laps on wed on the club track when i went to practice, used about 8 to 10 litres of gas. So that's about 10-12 bucks of 94. I run Motul Kart GP oil and htat's 27 bucks per litre. a litre of oil will last me 40 litres of gas. won't be buying new sticker tires so the expense there isn't too bad.

this is of course if i don' tbreak anything

overall that's really not that bad... the costs could be MUCH higher if you had to purchase a kart on top of ur current purchases
