Acura 1.6EL ecu

hey, i was planning on doing a Mini Me conversion on my 98 Civic HB, D16Y7. i want to put a D16Y8 head on my D16Y7 block. i know i need an ecu with VTEC. so, i bought a Acura 1.6EL ecu with the code PBA. it was a great deal i couldn't pass up, so i didn't do much research before buying it. i was wondering if the ecu from the EL (D16Y8) will have the same pins and same connectors as my D16Y7?

More than likely, but....here is the big question....

drum role please....

Stick????

Or Auto????

If your car is stick, and you have an auto ECU = fault code
If your car is auto and you have a stick ECU = tranny won't work
If you have matching, ie. stick on stick or auto on auto = correct ECU.

I have a manual trasmission. there are 4 connectors spots on the EL ecu that i got, but only 3 of them have actual pins sticking out. i know that 1 of the connectors are used for the automatics. since there are only 3 then i think i can safely assume that i got a manual ecu.

what does "fault code" mean? does that mean i will get an engine light on?

Check engine light is an indicator of a fault code

Take the ECU to a dealer (or call), and they can tell you if it's a auto or manual to be sure. You will need to hook up the VTEC wiring as well.

The Acura 1.6EL came in manual, but very few of them.. So most likely you have an auto one, unless you're that lucky.

Another thing is.. What year is the ecu? You'll need one from 96-98... If not you'll need to do some MAJOR rewiring... Reason is the 99-00 wiring is different from the 96-98 wiring.

One more thing to remember or ot add to your parts list is a knock sensor.. You'll need a knock sensor for the vtec conversion.
They're over $200 from the dealer.

Good luck

Yeah, it's true you need the knock sensor for VTEC, but I honestly think it's like 3 wires for all of VTEC.

HOWEVER, KS-R I didn't know the 98 to 99 harness changed so much...that's *** ravaging...pure rape. Did they do this just for the goddamn HVAC unit??? Cuz that would make me

:working:

So what about the acuras, would the 98-01 B18B a lot different, or still pretty standard swap in?

Before anyone bashes me.. The plugs are the same on the ecu, but rather.. the wiring is all different.

As for the 99-01 B18B... Same deal.. Wiring is all different. So the best thing to do would be to find the engine that matches to the year of your car.. less wiring headaches.

rewiring is the easy part. as long as the plugs fit.

Jokes...I don't really care cause I'm not doing this conversion...it's too much money for just 20 hp. I'd rather go big or go home. I'm trying TD04L turbo first on the D16Y7, and once that blows up, then some sort of B series. Just scary to think that the electrical on a car only one year older in the same generation would be different. But if it's just the pin layout, it's not such a big deal. Nothing a little Helm's or Chilton's wiring diagram inspection wouldn't reveal. Good info though KS-R
