Grinding? From where, engine bay or the rear?

mmm...... *robs the crystal ball* Could it be the pistons?

Grinding sounds like things that are moving against each other. I can only thing of piston, camshaft and pully. I don't know what else grinds against each other in the engine bay, but you really to get it checked out.

Have you tried open the hood, pull on the throttle with fingers and hear the grinding sound?

you cant hear it while the car is not being driven only in like in 3rd gear at 65-70km/h and you hear the noise rrrrrrr, its like hitting a small hammer off a metal bucket quickly but its not loud.

How about 4th or 5th gear? any sounds from those gears?

At which RPM does the sound come off? Does the sound occur at the same RPM but with different gear? Or it happens at that certain speed but goes away after exceeding it?

LOL knocking? Better hope not..........post this in the Performance section you'll get more ppl checking out your prob. theres so many possibilities.....so try to be detailed when describing it.

Good luck!!

I wouldn't drive unless necessary, if it happens only at a certain RPM I would try to avoid that and shift early....just as a precaution till you get it fixed.

ya i think its either 3rd or 4th and the rpm is like on 2000 after i step on it and go over 70 it stops, i dont think its the pistons if they were gone my car would be running low compresion

is it a ticking noise? Or more of a grinding one?

Hope it's not your bearings that are gone, cuz it would suck ***

But it's strange that you only hear this at a certain speed and not others. So you're saying that only when you're in motion you hear this sound. But when you blip the throttle to 65-70km/h in neutral while parked you don't hear that grinding noise?

If you say that it happens around 3-4th gear perhaps shift really early and try to see if it occurs in 5th gear?

If you hear a grinding noise it could many things, it could be your main/rod bearings are dead (thus pulling the head off the block and replacing all the bearings), or grinding noises could come from your power steering pump (I have this problem).

If it's a ticking noise, then it could be just your valves needing adjusting, but you say it's a grinding noise...so...hmm...

I wouldn't think pistons would make a grinding noise, unless your motor has absolutely no more motor oil left, maybe it'd make a nasty *** grinding noise and then you'd blow your motor or something haha

I'd suggest like everyone else is, bring it to a good reliable mechanic who can check it out for you. I know trying to save money by solving the problem yourself is best, but this could mean the life of your engine
