Anyone know a good machine shop?

hey does anyone know a good machine shop besides Leitner & Bush? There prices seem to be a bit high. I need a good reliable place to get a B16 head P7P and a 3 angle valve job.

Scarborough Engines can do it, but I don't have their contact info.

Leitner prices are industry standard. $650 for a mild pnp with 3 angle valve job. 3 other machine shops in the gta charge this same amount.

P&P isn't one of the things that I would trust just any shop to do. P&P is a technical skill based on experience and knowledge, so don't go just based on price. It's not like a lowering spring install where even the worst mechanic can get it right.

To qualify that, what does your friend have on his car? If it's FI, it means nothing cause you can run 12.7 on a stock head or even mis-ported head. If it's NA, then it is fine cause that's pretty quick. I don't want to sound rude or anything, but I'd hate to see you **** your money away.

I agree. Particularly on an NA setup, it is especially important. The charge is all for the labour, so that's what you're paying for, and a good shop will spend more time to ensure that things are done right.

My pick for best shops based on my research would be Alaniz or Portflow in the U.S. However, for those, expect to be down for a few weeks minimum and pay about $1000-1200US. If you want to get it done locally, L&B and Mississauga Engines can do the job well.

at our shop a full performance p&p is $1200 and that includes your 3 angle valve job. we have 25 years of porting exp. the vj is done on a serdi machine. we charge $260 for a vj alone. you can get one done from the yanks but expect to pay alot more. oh the saying "you get what you pay for" is true when it comes to a p&p

Is there a major diff between a mild P&P and a full race P&P?

Absolutely. Like everything else on the car, the headwork should be matched appropriately with the rest of the motor. You need to take into considering what pistons you're running, what cams, etc. An experience head porter should know what to do based on the specs and goals of your motor.
