Mobil 1 5W30
OEM Honda filter
1998 Civic LX D16Y7
112,000 kms or thereabouts
change it as per Honda recommendations or whenever I see fit (that varies as per my driving, weather, conditions... between 3000 kms and 6000kms, though I've gone as far as 10,000 kms as per Honda service schedule (max is 12,000 kms under normal duty - highway driving))

The oil was the same after 10,000 kms of driving as the day I put it in... maybe a little browned if anything, but the smell and viscosity was normal - not black like dino-juice.

umm whats the point in changing so soon if your running synthetic if you can change reg oil in that same interval? Im in the situation now of deciding whether to change or not but for the amount between that someo of you guys change its not worth it for me to spend the extra on syn.

Matt, that question was bound to come up... here is why - STARTUP wear and how quickly oil circulates in lower temperatures. In all, you will not see a night and day difference... but the minute increase in cost can mean far more longevity for the motor. Also, those running turbo use it for the superior protection against thermal breakdown in the turbo bearing.

just turn up the heat on those 8s boom boom boom --- see no more engine noise.

okie... every engine has a mechanical nature to it's tone. your valve lash contributes to a lot of noise, as do your injectors believe it or not. Besides that, a beat up motor will sounds harsher than a mint motor. I also noticed my engine gets all loud and rowdy after a long time on the highway, and I don't know why, but it's been like that always - so I attribute that to normal engine noise. And I won't lie to you, synthetic oil won't make that any quieter... I think dynamat holds the answer for you. Honestly, if you want your car to feel like a new BMW, just remove your dash and do the firewall in dynamat. I bet you'll love it and will think the effort was totally worth it. I'm considering doing that, but I don't know what car to do it on yet.

Guys, read the following link and realize that fully synthetic oil shouldn't need changing until some 30,000 km or more!
