B16 or B17???
i am wanting to put one of these in a 1992-1995 civic h/b which is a better engine for it???

b17. But its way harder to find parts for. Plus i believe the b17 has a cable clutch so you would either need to convert to cable clutch or use a hydro tranny.
B16's are a dime a dozen, parts are plentiful...especially used parts

seriously sick how much price diff... I can get a b16a2 for $2000, with ecu, tranny..... with under 30,000 miles can you get a b18b cheaper

well i don't think that i would buy a b16a2. I would prolly go with a jdm 2nd gen b16a. Does that price include shift linkages, mounts and axels? If not add another almost $600-700 for them.
Ask whoever can get you the b16 how much a b18b is. Its more than likely cheaper than a b16. A gsr b18c is only a little bit more than a b16 and totally worth it in my opinion.

To buy a b18c with mounts, axles, shift linkage and ECU your looking at around just under 4G.
If it's a Japanese engine, the wiring harness will be backwards(same with a b16) so you will either have to cut and extend the wiring on the supplied harness, or modify your existing harness to work.
Just as an added precaution, before you purchase an engine, make sure the supplier can perform a compression and leakdown test so that you can be sure your not buying a boat anchor.
Also, be prepared to do some pre-installation maintenance. Since the engine is out of the car this is the perfect time to check/replace the timing belt, waterpump as well as the valve clearances.
Hope this helps. good luck.
EDIT: I almost forgot, before you put the ENG/TRANS combo in the car, unbolt the trans and check the clutch. Better safe than sorry. Unless that is, you enjoy taking the transmission off the engine in the car rather than on the shop floor. Haha

yes it does thanx, well ive kinda decided i want to learn more into getting a b18c, thanx for your help everyone, hmm just have to find one thats in good cond. but not to expensive. p.s how much do you think it will cost to install this?
#14
install will vary between $600-1000 depending on where you go.
A b18b doesn't have as much HP as a b16 or rev as high as a b16 but it is very torquey, which makes for a fun street car. Now, you can rev the **** out of a b16 but they don't really start to move until 5000rpm or so, its due to the lack of torque. Now if you go with a gsr they have the best of both worlds.

I got the 2nd gen JDM b16 swapped into my EL, it doesn't really move until it hits v-tec and kills gas....I got the swap done for 4gs, tas b/c my car used to be auto...the engine was picked up 2600 complete...w/50,000kms supposedly....

yeah....supposedly....you never know with imported engines. Unless you get a whole front clip with the cluster you will never know exactly how many km's are on it. And you never know how the previous owner drove it. They might have beaten the crap out of it, never changed the oil or never done any maintainance.

i would take a B18b or B20 over a B18C1 for a street car anyday. Just go around to the japanese import places around toronto with cash and you can probably get everything u need for crazuy cheap.
#18
oh yeah b20....forgot about that....but he was asking b16 or b17.
Don't forget with a b16/b18c you need at least 91 octance gas due to its high compression. But with a b18b/b20 you can still use 87 octane. And with gas prices now a days that would be a good determining factor for me if i were to do another swap.
A b20 in a eg hatch would be hella fun. B20's are torque monsters. And if its not enough for you, later on you can always add a vtec head.

yeah and you can get ridiculous gas mileage on a B20 also if you happen to blow a B18B or B20 up there a hell of a lot cheaper to replace than a B18C or B16.

well i want a vtec engine, i dont want to have to make it vtec after i already get it in there, so i want it vtec, soo its either b16,b18c. what is the better way to go for a fast street car, and i want fast, and what would be the prices for these for the engine and to get it installed??
