CKF Sensor

well yesterday my CEL came on at the Hamilton meet, when i got home and checked the code it was throwing it was
54 CKF Sensor (Crankshaft Speed Fluctuation) defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor

anyone have a helms or something for a 96-98 civic, someone deleted mine, just wondering where its located

found out what the problem was at the meet yesterday thanks to imported2nv, belt wis hitting the line, and is damaged

by pulling the crank pully off would it mess up the timing to get to the ckf.

no. there is a woodriff key on the crank that holds it in a fixed position.

To answer your question quickly, no removal of the crank pulley will not affect your valve timing as long as you don't touch the timing belt. You don't have to.

That said, to get to the CKF you need to remove
a) Valve Cover
b) Upper timing belt cover
c) Alternator belt, P/S and A/C belts(if equipped)
d) Crank pulley(careful, don't lose the key)
e) Lower Timing belt cover


Now you can finally get to the CKF sensor.
Installation is (TADA!) the opposite of removal.
Keep are your parts and fasteners organized and you shouldn't have any issues.

im trying to get the ckf sensor. Dealer price is $184.88. im looking for a cheaper price, but im having trouble with the parts stores cause their telling me there are 2 kinds, texas instrument and nippon anyone know which one it is.

Im having trouble taking off the crank pulley can any body help or give me step by step instructions. Thanx. Do i need any special tool for taking off the pulley?
