hey before i was thinking about getting a swap and i started to think about it i really dont got money to do a good job.. and also my stock engine D16Y7 from my 97 hatch only got 150,000 on it soo im wondering if anyone can give me advice as to ways i can push the most power out of my car N/A.. (with no forced induction or antyhing) and also would it be worth it too get a si head with sohc vtec or not really? thanks

well how much power do you want? budget?

you could also get d16a1 pistons to raise your compression.. a more aggressive cam and purchase a p06 ecu and tune it.

But with all that money.. you might as well save up for a swap if you ever want to be at 160-170whp+

Agreed. Run your Y7 into the ground. Only thing I would do is when your manifold cracks, switch over to a Y8 manifold until you can do the swap.

dont waste money trying to make a d16y7 faster, only way it will be a real difference is if it were some kind of forced induction mod

N/A power is real expensive, more so than forced induction, unless you're talking about swaps. swaps and forced induction are about the same price level +/- a few bucks

a cheap modification is to get some prelude injectors, or some higher flow injectors from another civic, get an 88-91 injector resistor box, and wire it in . . . switch to the y8 intake manifold and exaust manifold, get a bigger exaust, advance your cam and retard the distributor a degree or two . . . or just spend 700 bucks for a zc block, head, and dizzy, put it in yourself . . . .

you wouldn't want to put zc in a 97... too old of an engine... plus, without forced induction a mini-me (swap the y7 head with the y8 sohc vtec head and the intake/manifold and ecu and a few other things). there are some killer write ups on honda tech on how to do it... with the parts and installation your could get it professionally done well for like 1100 or so i'd say... you are instantly adding like 21 hp at least... but the y8 head on a y7 block will produce slightly higher compression and you will yield more horsepower than the si engine (d16y8) on it's own.

quick tip, put some slightly larger pistions in to bring the compression up a little more and do an obd1 conversion and put a 92-95 civic ecu... and chip it... oh, and advance your timing a little bit... it will make a difference in bottom end torque... thats my spot... i have taken almost every sir i have ever raced against . having more torque will just help propel you forward quicker... like the type r, whopping 195 hp, but like 130 ft/lb... thats why it still takes 7sec for that badboy to hit 100km/hr... couple bolt ons can make a diff though... well... hope this helps..

richardl, you don't need power, your Y7 needs a new tranny setup.

street racing is not cool

I've posted a similar question a couple months ago...

i got a D17A1 (2003 si) motor and i only has like 20 000km on it

i want a k20 swap but the price is too high now

so i was wanting to juice up my motor...not worth it

a guy in hamilton wanted 6000$ for a type s (acura) motor with 130 000km...

im like "yah...ok"

im just sticking with the motor i have now...its still new

i suggest you do the same untill u save up the fund$
