engine for a 5th gen hatchback

ok ... in order to get the right spring rates I want to decide on which engine I'm going to put under the hood for my car... since my car is a CX with a D15B7 here are the options I have thought about:

D16Z6 - car is going to autocross and this wieghs in similar to current engine

B20B - because of the site the old one I think this would be an interesting platform

h22 - torque and it's freakin huge... but it's heavy again the autocross thing

the car is going to be used for daily driving and autocrossing....

I would like to hear suggestions from people as to what would be in their opinion the best engine to put under the hood and why they think it's the best... please don't turn this into a debate... and I don't need shop names I've decided on that part.

any B-series motor. Start with what you can afford and the beauty of the b-series is they are infinately expandable. You can swap heads and blocks until you are "maxxed out" if that is even possible.

Basically, just set yourself a budget and get the B series motor corresponds to that $$$ amount.

That would be my $0.02 cents because we could get 100 civic drivers here with 100 unique configerations and according to each, their setup is the best. ..BUT, if you can't afford it, their setup is no good for you.

So get what you can afford and F$%^ the haters.

affording the engine is not a problem (I was thinking about the crate motors from Mr. Gasket (10 grand), but figured that I wanted to do the build up myself, so that I learn something) I'm just curious as to what idea people have ... I know I'll get the standard replies of b16 2nd gen... or b18b turbo'd or b18C... but I really wanna shy away from the mainstream (I never did fit in in school ) so I'm curious as to other ideas keep posting everyone.. and Happy your advice is sound... the b series engines are the most interchangeable...

as for the range of engines I had orginally posted well it's one of each of the series, not exactly my favourite but the ones I think will go the farthest...

more ideas or opinions are welcome...

In an effort to meet the growing market demands, Dart Machinery Ltd. has applied their decades of racing experience to engineer and manufacture the first Dart block just for Hondas.

Dart produces blocks on all-new tooling and machines them on state-of-the-art CNC equipment. They add the features that import racers need to build powerful and reliable engines. Take a close look and you'll see why Hondas dominate with Dart.

* Manufactured from aerospace quality C355-T6 virgin aluminum alloy for maximum strengh and reliability.

* Closed deck design increases rigidty and improves head gasket sealing.

* Steel main caps with high-strength bolts increase bottom end strength and minimize bearing bore distortion.

* Extra large water jackets increase coolant circulation around cylinders.

*Standard piston oil sprayers reduce piston temperatures to extend life and prevent detonation.

*Dart blocks use stock components, including oil pan, oil pump, water pump, alternator, and timing belt tensioner.

This is the ideal platform..

New..

Anybody got local pricing on these..

I'm in the same boat as you gatherer...

But I would like to start "clean"...

PM me your phone number...

We talk...

Id say D16 just to throw out an idea.

Keys
-Cheap
-Abundance of them
-Can be built with the money you save from not swapping in a new b series
-Turbo them with the money saved
-Mini me setup.

Everyones overlooks the D, but they have potential too.

Just give Joe a call - motor pricing fluctuates so the pricing can rise and fall over the months...best way to get a price is just ask.

The H22 is a bitch to lift... for auto crossing would recommmend a B20 Block with B16 head, lots of torque with decent HP.

If you are seriously thinking about autocrossing you may want to research moddifications and classes... built frank motors are going to mess you up

Happy,

why didn't I think of that... well I'm hoping to learn autocross this year with my civic and go from there....engine is something I need to do because I hate the pick up ...sometimes it just bogs down way too much....

any idea Happy what class I'd be placed in with a AEM cai as my only mod?

h22 being a heavy *** motor is a myth.

I was talking to some guys who know there ish and they said the h22a is only like 50lbs heavier than the b18 series motor, and the driveability factor is not noticeable.

Not sure but if you are serious about autocross and have no other mods...I'd remove the CAI and drive in the stock class... cause that CAI really doesn't do much but it may affect your class and put you against some beefier competition.
