Engine flush and fuel system treatment

the ticking is a sign of things to come - the eariler you attempt to fix it, the better the odds are that i'll go away. decarbonizing is the first step, beyond that you are looking to get the head hot tanked and cleaned up, and the valve seats redone (anytime you have the valves out, odds are the seats will have to get cut)

No, I tried it a shot glass is 1.5 oz I think...
PLUS it has to sit for a MINIMUM of 8 hours, but the longer the better.... I started mine w/o venting, but what you are supposed to do is crank it with the spark plugs out, so any excess will get purged out through the spark plug holes and you just wipe it up.

drain the old oil out. put in new oil. add half a litre of ATF. run it for 15 to 20 mins. at 2500 to 3000 RPMs (do not drive the car with the ATF). drain, replace the filter and put in new oil.
notice how dark the oil you just put in there comes out in just 20 mins.

A simple and easy, but effective method is to get a very mild fuel system cleaner (such as the Motul one) and cycle 6 bottles over the course of 6 full gas fillups. The mild detergent will not harm the engine like more potent cleaners, but over the course of 3000 km will take all build up off. I did this on my jetta when it hit 150000km and it made an improvement in apparent power, idle, smoothness, noise, and mileage (gained an average of 50km on a tank of gas). And I had been using Motul Synthetic for the past 75000km.
