Engine Mod Suggestions

1997 Integra LS. Just bought it, picking it up tomorrow. Really wanted a GS-R but this was an amazing deal. The car will not be a drag car, mostly lapping and Solo events. What is the most bang for the buck engine mod for this car? I have already lined up suspension and exhaust, but I know I will be looking for more power. Are cams the way to go?

Thanks

Turbo, a nice kit can product solid 10lbs boost and be very reliable
if you cannot afford the turbo, go with complete headwork,
min, 3point grind on the valves, cams, port&polish, deck the head, could also look at nice header also, valves & springs, will get your rev's a little higher also, try ditching that tranny if you are going SOLO, you want atleast an SIR or GSR tranny, tighter 1-5 gearing, the LS/GS/RS are geared really low.

awesome info, Turbo is out of the question, this car will be driven year round, and will also haul my son around once and awhile. I need reliability.

Turbo can be reliable if you build it right.

Yeah but to build it right you have to spend the $$$, and that is something that is not flowing as much as I'd like right now.

christ yeah turbo.. thats it

if your going to use it for solo 2 or solo 1 and you want to be competitive first figure out what class you want to run in and read the rule book. thats the only way to proper build up a car...

Well the car will see more ;apping days than anything, so I'm not too concerned about where the car fits into the rulebook, but I do agree with you.

dont bother slaping a VTEC......

too much trouble... and plus u would most liely pull your motor out of the car anwyays.. to properly build this....

listen to steve.

keep it stock or TURBO, my buddy had a turbo RS and used it for SOLO events. Drag3 kit very reliable, running low boost with over 219whp

sorry his car waas a 2000 teg RS

care to elaborate on this? have you ever built an ls/vtec?

They are quite reliable with stock bottom ends.. The only ****ty part of them is the r/s ratio....but.... if your not reving the snot out of the motor ALL the time you are quite fine.

ls/vtec is a great choice for you, id suggest not doing headwork to that ls head, because in realitly for the price of a b16 head vs. the price of a built ls head (the ls will flow SLIGHTLY better) its definantly not worth it.

A turbo would be more reliabe than the vtec head cause u wont have to redline it to get the power. Plus if u put a turbo kit together urself, it should cost the same amount as the vtec conversion. As long as u fuel the motor properly in accordance with the boost that ur running that motor will make way more power that a ls/vtec and be more reliable

^ do you have any clue on waht you are talking about?

How would turbo be safer than vtec?

Vtec is WAY more reliable than a turbo setup, and if you think you can build a "safe" turbo kit for the same price it would be to do a vtec conversion you should get you head checked. Dont speak unless you have built both, i have built both and i know the ups and downs of both. I reved my old ls/vtec setup to 8200 multiple times a day, and when i switched to my new setup, the old motor was in immaculate condition.

Turbo= higher cyilnder pressure, more heat

ls/vtec= better flowing head, vtec, around 150-160 whp resulting in a peppy car.

Ok dude.....U need to chill out, these are obviously just personal opinions...U seem full of urself, bragging about what u built and has no consideration for others....How would u know what I have built? Maybe ur turbo didnt work because u knew nuffin bout tuning a turbo car. Dont tell me ur one of them punks who just has to say sumfin cause others dont think VTEC is all that......Is VTEC ur wife? U also seem like u like to argue, I just know better, If ur VTEC machine is so great how bout u line it up with my turbo teg.....*** Ill even take out my intercooler just to show u how reliable it is.......
