Exhaust

Hey dudes.. I just added an exhaust to my car... It's Fireball style exhaust.

Out of curosity... anybody able to explain to me why it's LOUDER in the car than outside of the car? (or maybe it's just my ears)

It has a deep sporty tone.
Sounds very nice. I put the silencer on because it might be too loud otherwise. Even with the silencer on, it's still a deep sporty tone...

but why is it pretty damn loud in the car? With the silencer off... @ WOT... it even drowns out my sub.

Anyway to dampen that?

Other than driving on the highway with the windows open.

It looks like the picture attached.. except it's a single piece construction so it has no bolts in the side of the cannister.... pretty much it's a 1 piece construction.

The work they did was they removed the resonator that was in front of my rear axel... and the stock muffler.

They ran a stainless steel pipe from the place they cut off to the exhaust... and then the exhaust itself.

In total it costed me $345 (what came out of my pocket)

not so bad IMO considering you had to buy the muffler with the money too.... and the parts and the labour... well as long as you're happy that's all that matters...

Ohh I thought that $300 + was just for installation.

How much was muffler then.

Beats me.. the purchase was one large lump sum.

I had stainless steel piping from the exhaust back... So I have the muffler.. and about 1.5 meters of stainless steel piping welded on.

i found that in our gen7s, we have a much louder exhaust system then the older gens. and with your resonator off, what you describe sounds right. and like SiVeloz was saying, it's the resonance travelling through the floor.
if you went with a full 2.25" pipe from the catback without a resonator and a fireball style muffler, it'd be much much louder (inside and out)
where did you get it installed?

Ohhhhhh!
I think it sounds sporty.. but I wonder what the parents think if they hear me rumbling home in the middle of the night?

I got it installed @ JPG Mufflers in Oakville. SilverSiG's recommendation.

lol i was worried about that too, if it's really late and you don't gun it when they're sleeping they shouldn't hear you! lol but if it's sorta early, like 1 ish then just put it in neutral as you come up the driveway.... i have it a little harder to come home at night, cuz i have to open the garage and then close it after me, you can hear it through the whole house, thankfully my mom's a sound sleeper!

It looks ugly with the silencer on.

I took it off and it's loudddd.

They did a good job of welding it. I was hoping it wouldn't contact the skirt in the rear but it touches it slightly... meh....
