gear oil
i want to change my gear box oil and was wondering whether i should use honda MTF or Castrol Syntec 80 or 85w90. Will there be a differance in smoothness of shifts. By the way its a d16y7 motor. Thanks

Hehe... I disagree this time... Honda MTF will result in the smoothest shifts. If you don't REALLY race your car, there is no sense in using a product like AMSOIL. These numbers you give us are absolute crackpot numbers too kwik... 85W90??? That's a really heavy gear oil to be used for like rear end diffs and transfer cases... a Honda manual tranny, if Honda MTF is not available, takes 10W30 mineral oil. Unless you wanna be looking at the inside of your tranny in a little while, I suggest you read you owner's manual

theory gets you only so far. i used Honda MTF for the last couple years. going into 3rd gear at high rpm's it would grind. downdhifting to 3rd from 5th was difficult.
switched to amsoil synthietic a couple weeks back at the insitance of Joe at Altech. and these problems disappeared. all gear shifts were noticeably improved. i tend to stick with Honda MTF just like you bruno, i'd change it every 3 months..but in this case the amsoil came out on top by far.
now explain that.
however if you're running a honda LSd or if you're tranny is running reasonably fine i would stick with Honda MTF.

Duy, what's a Quaife take? What weight is the Amsoil synth?
LOL, want me to explain it... you have a broken tranny j/k... I'll take your word for it. You know, I've even considered buying Honda engine oil to try it out. Maybe I'll give Amsoil a shot for one round.

I've seen the numbers for Amsoil... it's the best out there for engine oil. I used to believe in Motul... I almost bought a $6000 drum of the stuff about a year ago THAT would have been DUMB! With me though, Mobil is more accessible to me, so I can change it whenever I want, whereas Amsoil is a little tougher to come by in Windsor.

A couple guys that work at altech used to have grinding problems as well and switched to the amsoil and it totally eliminated their problems. so i figured i'd give it a try. worked out well for me

Ya, it's a Saturday... maybe I cruize up to go to a bar on Friday night, then meet w/ you on Saturday and come with you for the cruize down to Niagara. My car's still on jack stands right now and needs an alignment, and I'm stuck at work
