gimme help to build custom dryer hose intake :P

Hey, I figure im not gonna get a expensive intake since i only have a D16...a real intake (AEM) wont do much for the price...

So i want to get a good filter (K&N) and some dryer hose but i dont know how to take out the stock intake....kinda

In the first 2 pictures...what are those wires (circled in green) connected to the intake part near the manifold??? if i disconnect them...what happens?

i took out the bottom resonator thingy and when i get the filter and hose ill take out the other part...the last pic is how i want to run the hose...to the front of the bumper

The hose coming from the valve cover is just a breather hose, you can throw on one of those crankcase breathers.

I believe the other hoses have coolant running through them, so you need those.

Does your engine have an air sensor on the hose? If so you'll need to keep that as well. If you remove it the engine light will come on. I don't think you can bypass that but I could be wrong.

Hope this helps.

Since you have the D16Y8, one those wires is the air speed sensor, which you will have to reconnect, otherwise you will get a check engine light. As well, make sure to reconnect the breather hose and DO NOT replace this with one of those small breather filters as they are illegal. If you do install the new intake, make sure you secure it as well (ie. clamped on to the body), as you can also get ticketed or even have your plates taken off if it is not.

Why are those breathers illeagal? the air box is not hard to take off, a couple of screw thats about it, but i don't know how you would connect the sensor to the dryer hose? since i bought the full intake it was just plug and play, not hard at all.

The breathers are illegal due to emissions. I don't know the exact details, but I know of several people that have been ticketed because of them.

I forgot someone on the board said that they got a warning from the cops for having a breather. You could always get an oil catch can instead.

It pulls the the air out of the valve cover and re-uses it in the air intake.....you will also loose gas milage if it is not conected to the pipe (has to do with the pcv valve).

I am not referring the the drive clean emissions test. If you get pulled over and the cop decides to check under the hood, you will likely get a ticket for having it.

yes. It is tampering with an emmision control devise. I have also heard that it's a big fine too.
