How can someone mess up a valve adjustment???

My mechanic is being good about this, he told me he didnt adjust it too tight, nor too loose, and told me it could be many small things that would cause the same problem.

How long did you let the car cool down before they started to work on the valves?
When I did the valves on my old car, it took almost 4 hours for the engine to get completly cooled down. I even had the valve cover off for the last hour too.
Also, if any of the valves are worn, the feeler gauge will not give you a acurate reading. The feeler gauge will sit on the egde of a worn part, and keep you from getting a good spacing. (Hard to explain)

Yeah I'm told I 'should' get it back this weekend, so the beginning of next week I'm bringing it to the Acura dealership here in Hamilton. I've heard the mechanics there do great work, so we'll see.
