Walmart, the light is quite cheap... you are advancing timing?? Sounds dangerous to me based on you not having tools to do it. It's quite simple, and a great cheap power mod... but you pay for it in terms of using 94 octane or having a blown up motor with melted pistons

I know this may sound retarded, and people please dont flame me out on this one, cuz ive tryed it and it works if done properly ...If you want to advance your timing a few degrees safely and easily, you can trick you intake air sensor into thinking that colder air is entering your intake, which inturn tells the computer to advance the timeing. You can do this by inserting a small resistor in the IAS plugg. It works on obd2 computers, and im sure it works on obd1...but you do have to use 94octane and you suffer slight fuel milage loss while its installed.. the resistors can be purchaced at radio shack for less than 1 doller, and it take less than 5 minuits to install/uninstall, and it will not trigger a CEL.
It basically makes you car feel like it does the first thing in the morning when its all cold and peppy... the 94 octane is a must...

sounds reasonable... however, I was unaware that the ECU controls ignition, since we have a dizzy...it's a mechanical relationship between the cam(s) and the rotor and cap. To get a controllable ignition, you need like an MSD box... like the 6BDL or whatever that model # is.

for other cars with DIS systems, yes, not cars with distributors... a dizzy is a gear driven device that creates a fixed relationship between cams (which are via timing belt in direct relation to the crank)... and the rotor and cap are fixed on the dizzy body, so I don't really see any way for it to be adjustable via computer. The way to adjust it is with a timing light, loosen the body of the dizzy and turn one way or the other... one retards timing, other way advances.
The IAT trick causes the car to think its colder out, which makes it run richer... fuel economy suffers, and really it's just dumping more fuel in and slowly killing your O2 and catalytic... that is if you don't have the air present for it to combust at stochiometric ratios. You can do the same thing via an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and bump the pressure a slight bit to force more fuel through the injector in the given amount of time that the ECU sets as the pulsewidth. Approaching 85+% duty cycle, your injectors will fail and be stuck open....

ok that makes sense, I was under the impression that it adjusted the timing...I dont use the resistor mod, cuz I dindnt want to advance the timing with nitrous...still not going to use it tho cuz I like my gas saver honda but seriously it did pep it up when I had it installed.

Were you under ZEX when the resistor was installed... cuz more fuel will be peppier... to a point. But it's also a mental thing, and actual humidity levels and other variables day to day.

hey bbarbulo this is kinda interesting... This thing piggy backs the ecu

Note: Please specific Year, Make, Model, and Engine Size or Type when order. / Dimension W 4.5, H 1.25, D 4.75 inches / Fit 1992 1993 1994 1995
Detail Description:
The VENOM 400 constantly monitors the vehicles throttle position senor (TPS) and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) or air mass sensor (MAS). When airflow entering the engine and the throttle position sensor reaches a predetermined level, the VENOM 400 is activated. The VENOM 400 then enters a strategy of sense and modify. It senses the sensor values, interprets them, then modifies them to increase performance. The existing on-board computer senses the modified values and increases fuel flow, " modifies the ignition spark curve " and transmission shift point (on automatics only). Once the sensor valves return to normal mode (like idle), the VENOM 400 switches back to sense only mode until conditions again warrant the high performance mode.
