How to fix bad gas mileage....
My friend has a 00 civic SIR, and has been getting 200km's a tank for awhile now.
What could be causing this... fuel filter is changed, and he has a vafc that has all the default settings.
Thanks,
Torrey

faulty sensor, just went through this on my car...
check out coolant temp sensor - tells the ecu to lean out mixture when temp rises,
air intake temperature.
checkout the voltage of the TPS sensor...
also checkout timing, make sure plugs, cap, rotor, and wires are in good condition

Yea it is bad.
I know personally, I hit vtec all the time, and I always get 450km a tank, never less.
He has an aftermarket fuel pump, and no FPR, so Im starting to believe its shooting too much gas through the system. If he bought a Vafc,,, could that adjust fuel trims, and how can you adjust it?
(this goes out to those who have and know how to use a vafc, telling me to read XX somewhere else is not what I want as a response.)

haha... well, the VAFC is perfect for adjustment of fuel delivery, in fact that's what he NEEDS to be running, but problem is, if he's unwilling to read the literature that's available, there is little to no help for him. I mean, just ask 2 rice 4 u about it LOL
He needs to select the right displacement (if I remember correctly), choose his injector size 240cc is stock, and then choose Hi Lo values for his fueling in 500 rpm increments to adjust fuel trim. Even if he just disconnected the VAFC, he'd get way better mileage.

yeah that is quite strange. i get 530- 600 km per tank. depends on how i drive. i use to burn more gas. I did a tune up on my car and it fixed it. something has to be not working properly. Not to sure what though could be alot of things.

If your at home tomorrow, come by my place, I'll rip out that vafc and put it to some good use (My car).
In seriousness, disconnect it, and reset your ecu.
Then let a shop reconnect it and tune it at the same time.
NOOB

It's connected fine... with tuning HAPPY claims to have picked up 5 whp. So connection is not the problem. Go through the menu and familiarize yourself with it... then read the online pdf form form apexi... then go back and start playing with the settings... use Ultra 94 in there to start just to make sure you don't lean it out enough to detonate.
