hp gains from headers...

heres the scoop... this guy i used to work with has a dodge avenger...it has a mitsu 2.5 V6... now he is telling me that these new headers he is getting will give him 25hp and that he has the dyno sheets on other avangers to prove it....

i personally think its impossible to make that kinda power just by letting the exhust flow out more smoothly

oh ya and this motor is stock... just has a short ram intake and thats all

it's a V6 dude ... commonly with the 4 bangers by putting on a catback and free flowing cat and a header we could look at 12 hp ...

25 is high I'd be more inclined to see a 10 or 12 hp gain from just a header on a v6

yes avenger... this guy always sells his car as a mitsubishi... *shakes head* i dont even know how much crank hp this car is supposed to make but i hear claims of 200hp at the whells all the time.... yet my 125hp civic (on a good day) is consistantly faster.... a heavy car is one thing but 200hp is another

They have 4 cyl models, and 6 cyl... so hp varies... the car is *like* a Mitsubishi, but more Chrysler than anything else. But even a Mitsubishi car is ****... they make better TVs than they do cars, and they don't make good TVs at all

ya i know what you saying... maybe there was a reason mitsu was not in canada untill like year or so hahaha

well i know for sure his motor is a 2.5L v6... but even if it makes 200 crank hp... how is it that a 125 crank hp civic beat him?? like a 200hp prelude would kill me... and i would assume an avenger and prelude to be roughly the same weight

torque curve and gearing....

All american cars are crafted in inches and divisibles thereof... this is no way to make a car... it's a good way to bake a cake (cups, lbs, tbsp), maybe build a rough house frame in "2x4s"... roughly measure land size, etc... BUT IT IS NO WAY TO BUILD A PRECISION MACHINE. Who wants to know what their bore and stroke is in inches... ask an american engineer... but in Japan they'd laugh at you first, then maybe lynch you or throw you in jail for such stupidity. Like, you think at chrysler there is someone that sits there and calculates what gearing they need to hit peak hp at the shift point?? NO... they do it at the Japanese auto makers, cuz they are all about efficientcy. At Chrysler, they say... not fast enough?? Lets... hmmm.... add more cylinders *yay* let's rejoyce in our ignorance LOL

Let's take a moment and thank God for the metric system.

avengers/sebrings are 100% mitsu from interior to engine.Even chrysler service manuals for theses cars are are simalar to chryslers but are japanese in style.Even the 3.0L engines in caravans are mitsubishi. The sebring convertables are chysler body with mitsu engine.Besides the 2.6 v6 only comes with an auto trans so how fast could it be.

It wouldn't surprise me to see 20+whp from headers on a V6. On the new V6 Tiburon, we got amost 25whp from intake/exhaust alone, and the header is supposed to be very restrictive on that car. Thus, while 25whp may be a little high, the actual gains might not be too far off. It really depends on how restrictive the stock manifolds are.

It doesn't surprise me one bit that Chrysler and Mitsubishi made an aliance... they said "You make shitty cars, I make shitty cars, let's make shitty cars TOGETHER!" And they sat down and celebrated the deal by designing the 3000GT/Stealth LOL that car is such a joke. I drove one (albeit a non-turbo one ) and it handled worse than my old crown victoria.

Don't diss the 3000gt/stealths or any turbo mitsu.

They take very well to mods and I rather mod a 4g63 or 3000gt anyday over a civic.

Ha, I had a 300hp talon before, and I had NO major failures. Oh and the avenger IS a mitsu as well.

Right, and my Civic IS an Acura LOL

don't trip... the Stealth is too big, the susp is too soft, and the ************ punishes the ground at a whopping 3800lbs + curb weight. Yikes!! What a failure!

As for Talons, I agree, the 1st and 2nd gens are pretty bomb, but don't try to tell me they are one bit reliable, cuz I know better. Maybe you didn't have yours long enough to see any problems. That would make a cool 4th car for me

I had the car from 100 000km's and drove it to 180 000km's.

I had nothing bad other than a wheel bearing that I had to replace. did the tbelt as soon as I got it, and changed the fluids as well. And I ran a T28 turbo on it for most of the time I had it, 2 years.

My old Saturn had 207000 MILES on it, but that's not to say it's typical of a saturn to do that... we are the lucky ones LOL

i see you civic owners are dissing the mitsubishi brand, well i own a 90 laser, yes a laser. so far i've added mitsubishi parts that could only be found in the usa also the talon bumpers. bla bla bla,
i guess i can call it a mitsubishi eclipse since it looks like one. kinda like most civic owners say their car is jdm when all they have is an engine swap, you say reliability???, well if you put any engine under boost your gonna have stuff break, i'm running 12lbs and everything seems fine. but i'm not afraid to work on my car, what do you expect? you wanna go fast your gonna have to wrench on your car. or you could just stick with a 1.5 sohc 92 hp and putt around. in the near future i wanna build a fast honda but right now i like being able to rape gsr's, h22 ludes, b16's with my cheap car.
was a civic owner-

idiot---> bbarbulo ...."They have 4 cyl models, and 6 cyl... so hp varies... the car is *like* a Mitsubishi, but more Chrysler than anything else. But even a Mitsubishi car is ****... they make better TVs than they do cars, and they don't make good TVs at all "
