The inspection is free with the oil change. The cleaning job costs $70 there.
That's a good price, isn't it? I've seen costs above $100.
But I guess it depends on the type of flush they use.

enlighten_me... those fuel system flushes are a money grab usually... anytime I've ever gone for an oil change they told me I needed one Well, I only went like 2 or 3 times in my winter beaters, but they assume if you are having them do the oil change that you don't know squat about cars... $70 for them to spray t-body cleaner in the breather and to put a shot of STP fuel injector cleaner in the tank... I think not! Jerky performance can be either under or overfueling, or an ignition miss... pretty hard to diagnose if you are a novice with cars or if you don't have the testing equipment. It could be malfunctioning emissions eq't too, but those normally set a CEL.

Hi bbarbulo, you mentioned spraying t-body cleaner into the breather? Is that the hole on the valve cover that has a tube leading to the intake? I sprayed the cleaner into the t-body last weekend, should I do that to the valve cover hole too?

No... what I mean is they don't even bother to get to the t-body... they'll start the motor and just spary t-body cleaner into the opening of the intake rather than the throttle body... they do it ghetto styles.

There is no reason to run t-body cleaner into the valve cover. There IS a method of de-carbonation of the entire engine using this stuff called sea-foam. I've never in my life seen the stuff for sale anywhere, and it's rarely talked about. It's a green foam that is sucked in through a vacuum tube with the engine running and it cleans out the carbon deposits through the engine. For a 1998, unless your car is neglected and has been running untuned for a period of time I'd say don't bother.

There is ANOTHER SEEEEECRET method of de-carbonation called a piston soak. The agent is called Marvel Mystery Oil... I bought mine in the good ol US of A. Use 1 oz in each cylinder, leave overnight, start motor in the morning as usual. Repeat as necessary... This stuff is claimed to be the universal fix-all for all things... you add 1 qt to your oil before an oil change, run it for 500 kms, change the oil. It knocks deposits loose and cleans the system. Apparently you can add it to your fuel too... I don't know about that...something about my injectors spraying oil doens't seem right.

Marvel Mystery Oil? Do they sell it at CT? How do I get it into the cylinders? I guess I can't do that myself right?

And adding 1 qt into my oil... that's almost 1L of oil, so wouldn't the oil overflow?

Hi bbarbulo, I got a multimeter and checked the resistance of all 4 spark plug wires yesterday, and turned out that they're quite high! It ranges from 7 kOhm for wire #4 (shortest) to almost 11 kOhm for wire #1 (longest). Is that really bad? If I go get myself a new set of wires, is the resistance gonna be a lot lower than those numbers?

anwered in PM...

As for MMO - no they DO NOT sell it at CT nor any other place I've seen. I bought mine in the states at Auto Zone. You take the spark plugs out and you pour using a turkey baster or syringe 1 oz of MMO in the cyl. Let it sit overnight, and start in the morning. It should smoke like a ***** at first, but that clears up.

Well, you are supposed to relieve some oil first, then add 1 qt of the MMO stuff... it's supposed to be really good at removing deposits from your engine. It's primo for Saturns (that's how I know about it cuz I researched it for my Saturn) and I'll try it on my Suzuki as well. Never done it on my Civic cuz there is no need - I run synth oil in the Civic so deposits are greatly reduced.
